My Writing Space
Yesterday, NaNoWriMo began, and I began writing my story. I didn’t want it to be in the same location that I use for working, so I decided to create a new one. I have barely used the reading nook area, so I decided why not. It would be perfect. I could close the sliding door to have some privacy, and still be able to see what the kids were doing.
It was perfect. Being surrounded by books and sitting in a warm, red chair, made writing a cinch. I created a playlist that reflected the mood of the story and got to work. I wrote 1671 words in an hour. I thought that it would take me two. It just shows what can happen when you are in your element.
It doesn’t matter where you write or what you write on, just do it.

Don’t Forget to Add a NaNoWriMo Region
National Writing Month is almost upon us, and I am gearing up for it. I signed up for NaNoWriMo and have started adding writing buddies. Here is my profile for those who want to add me: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/517846 When you are signing up, don’t forget to sign up for your local regions.
I signed up for United States :: District of Columbia and United States :: Virginia :: Northern. What’s great about signing up for Regions is that they usually have get togethers where you can meet other Writers who are also participating in NaNoWriMo.
This upcoming Sunday, I am headed to the DC NaNoWriMo Kickoff Party. I am hoping to meet new writing buddies, and get tips from NaNoWriMo veterans. Looking at my regions, there are going to be regular Write-In sessions in local coffee shops where you can write alongside other NaNoWriMo Writers.
Regions are even using NaNoWriMo to help raise money for numerous causes. I heard from a friend that San Francisco is going to have a Write-a-Thon where the money raised goes to charity. I am trying to see if I can head over there for the event because it sounds like a fun night surrounded by other Writers.
Sign up for your region today!
Writers: Are You Doing the National Writing Month Challenge?
National Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)begins November 1st. If you haven’t signed up, do it now: http://www.nanowrimo.org/user/register
For those who haven’t heard of it, NaNoWriMo challenges Writers to write 50,000 words by the end of the month. One thing that I like is that they emphasize that it doesn’t have to be a perfect 50,000-word novel, but you just have to reach that goal. It’s good for those people, like me, who are constantly going back and revising while writing. They spend so much time editing and criticizing their work that they never are able to write a novel, or even a short story.
After you have finished, you are able to upload your novel to the site between November 25 to November 30. You never know. You might win the chance to get your novel published.
The site is great. You are able to connect with other users, and you can be each other’s support during the month. If you want your first supporter, here is the link to my NaNoWriMo profile: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/517846
I am definitely up for the challenge. I have started writing a non-fiction book, but I am really interested in writing a creative fiction book that is loosely based on my life. One of the rules is that it has to be a new piece, so I am thinking of writing the fictional book.
This will be my first NaNoWrMo challenge, so wish me luck!
