Even though I’ve been told that I type way too loud by a lot of people, I never really cared until today. I was loudly clanking on the keyboard when I thought “Wow, I do type super loud.” I tried typing lightly, but I kept making mistakes. My hands also felt heavier as though lead was pushing them down. It made me wonder is there a way that I can quiet down my typing?
The first thing that I did was start googling “How to type quietly.” The results were funny. There are actual Facebook Pages calling for the end of loud typing and uniting people who can’t stand loud typers. Unfortunately, no one had any suggestions to help someone from pounding on the keys.
I look at my hands while I type, and after I press a key, I do raise the fingers really high and away from the keyboard before lowering it again. Maybe that’s my problem. Not exaggerating the way I raise my fingers and making the fingers flow to the other keys does make my typing quieter. However, I have to keep pressing the delete button more than when I don’t. With everything else in life, this could just be something that can be done with practice. I do also wonder though if this attempt to type quietly is one of the reasons for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Like I said, I feel like my hands are heavier, and I have to put more effort to press the keys without loudly banging on them. I’ve never had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Could it be due to my loud typing? I think that maybe I am just trying to find an excuse to continue typing loudly.
I’ve annoyed people around me for so long that I know it’s something that needs to stop. Will this slow down my typing? Will I continue making tons of more typing mistakes? I will give myself a personal 30-day challenge to stop typing loudly, and I will see if it causes more issues than solutions.
