Don’t Give Up On Your Dreams to Become a Writer

There was a guy in one of my college English classes that I had a major crush on. He had dark shoulder-length hair, always wore black, and barely spoke a word. He resembled the kid from Sky High. He would spend the entire class fidgeting with his hair while he wrote for the 90 minutes we were in there. When his stories were read in class, my crush intensified. He was an exceptional writer. My sister Kristine was one of those as well. I always pushed her to continue writing because the girl had talent.

I am not a natural writer; however, I’ve always had a passion for it. Unlike my sister and the gorgeous guy from class, I had to edit my writing 1,000 times and still do it a few more times after that. I am here to tell you that you can still become the writer you’ve always wanted to be. It just takes a little bit more work.

In 9th grade, I had this English teacher who give a new meaning to “hardcore.” Mrs. Holcombe was in her mid-sixties, icy blue eyes, and her mouth formed a tight, small circle. Thinking back, I don’t think I ever saw her smile. My classmates and I couldn’t stand her, but now I will say she was my favorite teacher ever. She made me realize that anything is possible.

I am glad that I have become a writer. The only way to become a good writer is to keep practicing, and learn how to be a great editor. Don’t give up.
