I’m at Riviera Maya, Mexico with the kids. One of my best friends got married on Saturday, and so I had to make the trip here (good excuse, huh?). While I was heading over here, I wondered, what am I going to do without a computer of any kind? I am on my computer over eight hours a day, so you can say that I have a mild case of web addiction. Also, being someone who is an avid blogger, I need a computer to post on my blog. Here are some things that I did before heading on the trip.

Schedule Blog Posts

I scheduled blog posts (like this one), so that my readers could have something to read while I was gone. All the blogging platforms have them. As everyone knows, I am a huge fan of WordPress. It is super easy to schedule posts on WordPress, so there is no reason not to do it. I sometimes use Windows Live Writer as a way to write my blog posts. It also has a scheduler, so there is a way for you to be visible, while being invisible (get it?).

Schedule Your Social Networking

I’m not a huge fan of having scheduled updates on social networking sites. However, in times like these, you have to do what you have to do. Therefore, scheduling tweets, Tumblr posts, Facebook wall updates, Posterous posts, Amplify posts, etc. is the way to go. Luckily, these services know that scheduling is a need, so they have it. I use Hootsuite to schedule updates to Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. For the rest, I use Amplify to schedule them because it can update tons of social networking sites.

Pen and Paper Always Work

I am someone who always has to outline and start writing on paper. Therefore, I find it easy to just bring tons of paper (three pads) and pens (four), so that I can write and write while I am there. Yes, you can bring a laptop or iPad to write on the beach, but sand is not my friend. I wouldn’t want my laptop getting any sand on it, so I’d rather leave it at home.

Relax, Don’t Do It

More importantly, remember to relax. It is sometimes hard to do that, so that is your first priority while you are laying on the beach drinking a pina colada.
