Water is what sustains life. If we didn’t have any water, us humans would slowly become extinct. When you think about technology, you really don’t realize that it is connected to water. Your every day gadgets, like your smartphones, video game consoles, televisions, automobiles, etc. all run on electricity. There is a relationship between electricity and water. Think about it. You’ve had a hard day at the office, and you want to take hot bath, how do you think your water is heated? If you want a hamburger because you are starving, how do you think you are able to chomp down on that savory hamburger? According to Blog Action Day, it takes 6.3 gallons of water to produce just one hamburger. The 6.3 gallons is from watering the wheat for the bun and providing water for the cow to cooking the patty and baking the bun.

Also, technology is rapidly getting more and more mobile. There is an increasingly amount of people getting smartphones, like iPhones and Android phones. Did you know that to charge one takes about half a liter of water? If your smartphone is like mine, the battery is constantly draining due to all the apps I use. Therefore, I am constantly having to charge it. Imagine how many people are doing this. Ouch! I know.

In the United States, we really don’t think about it because we are blessed that we have access to clean water. However, in many parts of the country, they don’t have it that easy. Water in many third-world countries is polluted, dirty, and undrinkable. Some states in the United States got a glimpse of how it is to live this way during the BP Oil Spill. They probably were able to get bottles of waters, but bottles are not the answer. You’ve probably heard that it can affect reproductive systems in humans. However, plastic bottles also affect the growth and development of animals living in aquatic ecosystems. This equates to our entire world being affected.  We are all interdependent, whether we like it or not. You are affected.

A statistic came out that dirty water kills more people than violence, including war. Why? The human body is made up of 60% water. We have to continuously replenish the water in our bodies with fluids because we are not sedentary creatures. Therefore, we are always exerting energy that means you are continuously losing water in your body. If you didn’t have access to clean water, how would you able to do this? If you have seen or read “Dune,” you understand the importance of water.

H2O Conserve has some great water tips on how to conserve water, so check them out to start conserving water.

This is a great cause that many people in parts of the world that aren’t directly affected don’t think about. You should. Watch the following video and sign the petition. Remember, change always happens with you.
