For the past few years, I have been freelance writing part-time while holding a job. Family and friends have told me to take the plunge and go full-time, but fear kept me from actually doing it. I would come up with all the excuses in the book as to why it wasn’t right for me to do.
I have children
I have a mortgage
I might fail
My sister passed away in January, and it made me really think about my life. I thought about who and what is important, what I really want, and what would make me happy. I realized that one of the things that kept coming up was leaving my 9-5 job, and becoming a Writing Consultant full-time. Therefore, I finally did it.
My last day at my current position is on May 31st. After that, I will be a full-time Freelance Writer. Even as I type, I can’t help but smile. It’s time that I actually did it, and I am glad that I did.
- I have six months of salary in an emergency fund
- I’ve set up my web site, social media accounts, and have started vlogging
- I am learning to not be afraid of rejection and failure
If I am passionate and a hard worker, I know that I will succeed. It will give me time to spend the summer with my children while doing what I love. Wish me luck!
