Tomorrow I am going to TechCocktail.  I’m excited to go to meet fellow bloggers, entrepreneurs, and techies.  I am also kind of prepping myself for the people who I like to call as the “Delightful Children From Down The Lane.” Yes, I used to love the Codename: Kids Next Door cartoon.

I see all the time I am at a networking event. You see someone approach another person.

“Hi, so what do you do?”

“I’m a [whatever job title the person is not interested to talk to].”

“Ohhh…ok…well bye!”

People who do this are missing the point of networking.

Networking helps you widen your current group of connections. The bigger the group is; the more chance there is that someone might help you with your business endeavors. There have been many people I have become acquainted with who weren’t in the same field of work as me. However, one time or the other, they have helped me get a gig, or I have helped them do the same.

The best way to get the most out of networking events is to smile, have your business cards, and talk to as many people as possible.
